Day 5 @ Shanghai

Yeah! Clear skies and cool breeze. Finally, our feet, shoes and smelly socks remained dry the entire day =)

The day started with a visit to the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum. The sheer size of the building amazed us even before we entered. Our first stop was the not-to-be-missed Human Digestive System ride where visitors got onto 4-seater cabins and like monorails, 'travelled' down the digestive system. The kids had a lot of fun looking at 'things' in the system. Truly experiential learning! The highlight of the ride was well... being flushed down the toilet as undigested material a.k.a poops! Following that, pupils broke out into their own groups to explore the various galleries according to their group's interest.

We then headed to the famous Oriental Pearl Tower. The sight at a height of 468 metre was simply breathtaking! Some hats flew and the kids had a good time chasing after them. Some even imagined that they were on the Amazing Race, trying to look for flag-signs through the binoculars... At the tower's pedestal was the Shanghai Municipal History Museum. The pupils learnt that looks can be deceiving! Thinking that the area to be covered is small, they thought that this would be an easy walk. The trail was almost like a maze that seems never ending. Soon after they reached the exit, we sat down on any stairway that we could grab! Of course we had fun taking pictures of one another...

Then came the most awaited time of the day - shopping! Given RMB30, each pupil were to budget for their own dinner at the Super Brand Mall. The pupils made a beeline to the fastfood outlets. And yes, their favourite was McDonald's! Under normal circumstances, they would be able to come back to their seats with trays filled with food in minutes. Today, they have to spend some time trying to figure out how to order in Mandarin. Can you translate McChicken, Cheeseburger, McNuggets to Mandarin? Bet you can't! That was why the kids had to run to the teachers for help heee... Even the Muslim pupils were not spared! See how they practised to order Iced Lemon Tea and Coke...

The night scene at the Riverside Promenade was cool! We took many pictures with the beautiful lightings as the backdrop. We were approached by a few hawkers who were rather determined to sell their products. Instead of seeing them as a nuisance, the kids managed to commend that they had perserverance and determination. One of the pupils said, "Wow, she never give up!" That's perserverance. So we hope to be at the other side of the river tomorrow when we visit the Bund, that is if the weather permits. Pray for us ok?
